ALETHA MARIE (ENTROP) CURTIS

Aletha was born March 22, 1929, in Westphalia, TX where she was reared and attended school. While in high school, she worked for families in the community performing domestic duties. After graduation from Lott High School in 1945, she worked providing elder care and childcare for families in the area. In late 1946 her sister Valeria introduced her to Charley Curtis at a dance they were attending in Lott. Aletha married Charley on April 28, 1947, in Marlin, TX.
Aletha and Charley lived for a few years in Lott, Marlin, and Waco, and then moved to the Texas coast. Once their children became school age, they settled in the Houston, TX area where she devoted her time to homemaking and caring for her family. The family took advantage of living near the coast and would spend time together fishing and swimming. Following Charley’s retirement in 1990, he and Aletha spent their time between Houston and Rosebud/Westphalia.
Aletha passed away on January 20, 2018, at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by Charley (her husband of 63 years); sons Ronald Curtis, and Kevin Ray Curtis; daughters Diana Johnson, and Angela Corfield; her parents and five brothers. She is survived by one son (Louis Curtis); three daughters (Ellen Casey, Jean Gatwood, Sheila Ivy); 16 grandchildren; 18+ great-grandchildren; four sisters and 1 brother; numerous nieces and nephews.
Aletha’s family will be accepting visitors at Blackwell & Vazquez Woodforest Funeral Home (750 Uvalde Rd. Houston Texas 77015) the visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, in the main chapel from 10:00 am to 1100 am. Funeral service will be at Blackwell & Vazquez Wood forest Funeral Home (750 Uvalde Rd. Houston Texas 77015) in the main chapel at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. Interment will follow at Houston National Cemetery on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 02:00 pm.
