Petra was born October 28, 1945 in Fresnillo Mexico, where she was raised and had her five children (Luis, Cecilio, Maria, Jose, and Jorge). She attended nursing school, however, recognizing a need and wanting to provide a better future for her daughter and sons, in 1977 she made the most difficult decision and left her children in the care of her mother and father and moved to Houston Texas alone to serve as a live-in nanny for Doctor Macio; caring for his two sons. In 1978 she met Alfonso Pena, not knowing at the time that they would fall in love and remain together until her passing in 2018. During that time, she worked long hours, sometimes not having enough to eat due to sacrificing for her children by sending the majority of her earnings back home. Eventually the good Lord blessed her with the resources to bring her oldest son, Luis, here to assist her work and eventually bring her other children to the states in 1979.

From that point on Petra worked long hours as a waitress and other jobs in order to continue sending support back to her parents and siblings. Eventually she assisted in bringing her other siblings here to the United States to help them find a better future too. Her unselfish sacrifices and hard work can be seen by the multiple family generations that have found success in locations throughout: Texas, California, and Mexico. Then on April 21, 2008 in Pasadena, Texas she and Alfonso Pena were married; one of the happiest days in her life. In her final years she found great joy in visiting her siblings and spending holidays with her grandkids in Dallas, Texas.

At the time of her passing she was surrounded by her loved ones.

Everyone who knew Petra were blessed because she demonstrated nothing but unconditional love and unselfish acts even if it meant that she would be without. Her greatest joy was serving God and seeing all her family and friends prosper and achieve their dreams. She is remembered and survived by all that knew and loved her; for she was truly an angel that was eventually called back to Heaven.
